Domaine Barmès-Buecher in Wettolsheim
A story of a family and a passion
The story of our Domaine began in 1985 with the marriage of Geneviève (née Buecher) and François Barmès. This marriage brought together the landholdings of the two families, who had owned vines in Wettolsheim since the 17th century.
They decided to start moving toward biodynamic winegrowing with a focus on respect for nature, the living world and the rhythm of the seasons. The Domaine’s 16 hectares started their official conversion to biodynamic growing in 1998 and have been certified biodynamic since the 2001 vintage
In 2011, Maxime took over the reins in the vineyards and winery, continuing the meticulous work begun by François.
Supported by Geneviève and Sophie Barmès, Maxime carries out painstaking work, respecting the natural cycles and elements, seeking to produce authentic wines. He is intent on crafting wines with a distinctive personality, imbued with emotion, and deeply rooted in respect for the land of his ancestors.
Respect for nature
Create balance, harmony and the purest natural expression of the terroir, vintage and varietal”: achieving this goal drives all our decision-making and is embedded in every area of our meticulous work both in the vineyards and winery.
In our day-to-day activities, we strive to give purpose to our work, contribute to the well-being of the land and help to preserve the environment. We do this by acting as a guide to the living world, working on each plot in a bespoke fashion to ensure the natural balance of the elements.
Passing on a heritage
Respecting our family heritage and the work undertaken by our predecessors is very important to us.
We work the land of our ancestors in a quest to bring out its full potential and in a spirit of trust and total harmony with our team, as we have strong human values.
A family spirit
Our family enjoys a very special and genuine relationship with our devoted team and our loyal customers in France and around the world.
A family spirit reigns on the Domaine and there is a feeling of close connection. We seek to work in line with our beliefs and this includes the adoption of a “back to the basics” approach that we feel is needed, and that we take that forward in our relationships.
Our grape varieties
At Domaine Barmès-Buecher, we grow 9 grape varieties over 18 hectares of vines.
